How to Design a Zero-Dollar Validation Experiment: 5 Hypothesis-to-Result Templates

The Vibepreneur Team6 min read

Five templates cover the most common validation needs: demand signal, conversion intent, channel viability, willingness to pay, and concierge MVP. Each template has a hypothesis frame, a channel, a measurable threshold, and an explicit stop signal. All five cost $0 in software and produce evidence in days.

The hypothesis frame

We believe X. To test this we will do Y. We expect Z. If we see less than Z, we will [specific action]. The four parts are not optional. Without a written belief, you cannot tell whether the experiment validates or refutes. Without a stop signal, you keep going on inertia.

Template 1: cold-DM demand test

Send 30 hand-crafted DMs on LinkedIn asking a specific question about the pain. Healthy: 25 percent or higher reply rate. Marginal: 15 to 25 percent. Unhealthy: below 15 percent. Time to result: 7 to 10 days. If below 15 percent after 30 DMs, do not send more. Reframe the wedge.

Template 2: landing page conversion test

Without a written belief, you cannot tell whether the experiment validates or refutes. Without a stop signal, you keep going on inertia.

Publish a landing page and route 100 qualified visitors to it. Healthy: 12 percent or higher opt-in. Marginal: 5 to 12 percent. Unhealthy: below 5 percent. Time to result: 10 to 14 days. If below 5 percent, tighten the offer rather than the page. Generic page tweaks rarely fix offer-market fit.

Template 3: community share test

Without a written belief, you cannot tell whether the experiment validates or refutes.

Share three useful posts (no pitch) in two relevant communities over two weeks. Healthy: 10 plus saves, 5 plus profile visits, 3 plus inbound DMs. Marginal: half those numbers. Unhealthy: zero inbound DMs. Time to result: 10 to 14 days.

Template 4: willingness-to-pay test

Quote the price to five qualified prospects in diagnostic calls. Healthy: 2 of 5 sign a paid pilot. Marginal: 1 of 5. Unhealthy: 0 of 5. Time to result: 14 to 21 days. If 0 of 5 sign, ask each prospect: if price were not the constraint, would you still not move forward? The answer tells you whether to lower price or fix the offer.

Template 5: concierge MVP test

Deliver the workflow manually to three paying customers for six weeks. Healthy: 3 of 3 retain through week 6, 2 of 3 commit to month 2. Time to result: 6 to 8 weeks. If 2 of 3 churn before week 6, do not build the software. The workflow you thought was the product is not the product.

How to use the templates

Templates 1 to 4 cost $0 and produce signal in under 30 days. Template 5 produces revenue while validating the build. Skipping earlier templates often means you over-invest in later ones. Run each experiment as a named entity with hypothesis, channel, status, and a written result. The discipline of writing the result forces honesty.

Vibepreneur's experiments tab structures each test as a named experiment with hypothesis, channel, status, and results. The status pipeline (planned, running, analyzing, completed, cancelled) enforces the discipline. See the system.
